Mobile and fixed reader infrastructure

Tagged assets can be located anywhere on the plant site by using a combination of mobile and fixed reader infrastructure. Keep deployments cost low by using fixed readers in high traffic areas and mobile readers to cover the rest of the plant area. No matter where your tagged asset has moved in the plant area, SiteSense® will find it for you.

Rugged hazardous location certified tags

SiteSense® GPS tracking tags have been designed and tested to withstand the harshest requirements in industrial environments and shipping environments. They meet or exceed military specifications for drop, vibration and environmental testing conditions. They have been fully certified for operations in more than 50 countries as well as hazardous locations for the oil and gas industry.

Easy to deploy and install

SiteSense® RFID reader infrastructure can be setup quickly, and with solar power options and Wi-Fi or cellular communications, installation and support costs are minimal. Mobile RFID readers for personnel do not require any installation and can be used within a matter of minutes to start locating assets anywhere in the plant area.

Setup alerts and notifications to warn system users that shipments are in certain areas.

Secure Web-based software

With SSL encrypted web-based software there’s no software to load onto desktop and laptop computers. This helps keeps deployment and support costs low and allows for secure access from anywhere there’s an Internet connection. SiteSense® Material Tracking and Global Shipment Tracking can be accessed from within the same software, so there’s no need for multiple software platforms to track RFID and GPS tags.

Reporting tools

Pivot table reports are available for download from the SiteSense® Website to allow for maximum versatility of reporting on received materials, material positions, coverage reports and more.

Integration tools

SiteSense® data can easily be integrated with other material management systems by using one of many integration tools available from SiteSense®.

Know exactly what assets are overdue for maintenance

SiteSense® keeps track of inspection cycle times for each asset and once an inspection or maintenance is complete the maintenance date is reset. If a cycle date has passed, the asset will show in the overdue maintenance report.

Know the location of all assets, even if they moved

The SiteSense® Mobile reader infrastructure can cover all areas of the plant to read RFID tags, up to 300 feet from a reader. As a reader passes by each tag it updates the location of the tagged asset.

Flexible reporting

Reports can be setup to show tagged asset positions, the date last maintained, the date when maintenance is due and more. Reports can also be setup to show only those items that have inspections coming due (for example in 2 weeks) or items that are past due for inspection.

How do I attach the active RFID tag to the different types of materials?

Can I re-use the active RFID tag?

Yes, after the tag has been decommissioned from a tag assignment it can be re-used multiple times for the life of the battery.

How long will the active RFID tag last?

For 2 second beacon rate settings the tag will last for 4 years at room temperature. Intelliwave has tested the life of tags in northern Alberta over many years and 3 years is a typical life expectancy for cold weather climates. The active RFID tags have battery monitors in them and the SiteSense® battery-life report will let you know when RFID tags need to be replaced with new tags.

Can I put new batteries in the active RFID tags?

Unfortunately, no. Because the tags are sonically welded together during manufacturing, the tag’s casing will be damaged if taken apart to get at the battery. How do you provide accurate GPS positions for RFID tags? We’d love to tell you the details, but this is company confidential!
